The Caamora Theatre Company is now back from a very satisfying weekend in Germany. 'Alchemy in Concert', performed on November 29th in Reichenbach, turned out to be a huge success as well as a pleasurable experience. Clive's musical was received with great enthusiasm by the cheering audience gathered in the nearly sold out Neuberinhaus Theatre.
Clive: "What an excellent weekend! An epic journey to Reichenbach, followed by a terrific evening of 'Alchemy' in front of our biggest audience to date! A brilliant performance by the whole cast and band (well done guys), was received with such warmth and enthusiasm by the wonderful German audience, all rounded off with a standing ovation and getting to meet many many smiling faces after the show. We finished the show, and all left the stage and I went backstage to change some clothes and sort a few things out... I was then sitting down having a well earned drink when someone pointed out that the audience was still clapping and cheering... Couldn't believe it! Massive 'thank yous' to Uwe Treitinger and all the guys behind the show. It was a triumph!"
On November 12, 2014 Clive was a guest of honour at the 20th anniversary of Artur Chachlowski's MLWZ show broadcast live from KRK Radio in Krakow, Poland. The three-hour-long show featured songs from Arena, Pendragon and Clive's musicals complemented by comments and reminiscences of history and long-time collaboration between Clive and MLWZ.
Clive: "I have known Artur Chachlowski for a long time now, and it was a great pleasure to attend the 20th anniversary MLWZ show! I remember posing with Artur for a photo, when we were still building Thin Ice Studio here. We had yet to make so many albums along the way. Each album we made, whether Arena, or Pendragon or Shadowland or 'She' or 'Alchemy', he has been there supporting and promoting our music and our passion. Throughout these years, there has always been Artur Chachlowski… May he and his radio show continue forever!"
Clive reveals details of the freshly announced anniversary festival, 'The Fire and the Quest', which offers an opportunity to experience three unique musical events in one weekend.
Clive: "I thought it would be great to return to the Cheltenham Playhouse with some kind of production and I was also considering putting together a new production of 'She' - in the same style we have now done 'Alchemy'. I then thought it might be both a challenge and fun to produce both shows back to back - and that is how the event was born. This is also a wonderful opportunity for two celebrations in fact: the 10th anniversary of The Caamora Theatre Company and the journey of the musicals as well as the 75th anniversary of the Playhouse Theatre itself. Surely a perfect excuse to celebrate ;)"
We are happy to announce an event extraordinaire designed to celebrate 10 years of Clive Nolan's musicals! A two-day-long festival will take place at the Cheltenham Playhouse Theatre on September 4th-5th, 2015. The event will see the return of 'She- the Musical', revised and rewritten especially for the occasion (Friday), as well as the 'West End' version of 'Alchemy' (Saturday). Additionally, 'Beyond the Veil' will offer a chance to meet Clive and the Caamora Theatre Company artists for an afternoon of acoustic music and conversation. (Saturday afternoon). More attractions will be announced soon! "Golden Tickets" for the festival are available NOW via our new 'The Fire and the Quest' website or directly from the theatre. For details visit the event's website!
Clive: "The 'Fire and the Quest' event will be something very special - the only chance to see both of my musicals back to back. It will be a terrific weekend with a few surprises thrown in - don't miss it - there are only 180 tickets! I really hope to see many friendly faces there."
Halfway through the European 'Men Who Climb Mountains' tour, Clive comments on various aspects of touring:
Clive: On hardships of touring: “The hardest part of this tour has been the ill health! Most of us started it with colds and that left the energy levels a bit low. However this have improved as the days went by and the plague ship is clear now I think! :)”
On positive side of touring: “I usually sleep pretty well when the bus is moving - then we simply wake up at the next venue. Providing there is food, drink, a toilet and a shower - the day is set well.”
On favourite material: “I am enjoying playing the new stuff very much - strong songs and nice keyboard sounds. I guess my favourite track to play changes depending on the day... 'Indigo' is probably at the top of the list.
On stage costume: “I thought a bit of a steampunk image would be fun - the jacket and the hat seem to put that across well. The only problem is that these items are hot on stage - that's where the fan comes in - an industrial power fan helps to keep me cool. I also don't wear these items all the time. ;)”
On swivel keyboard stand: “I love this new stand - a two tier stand that revolves 360 degrees! It's a lot of fun to work with and really gives me a new freedom on stage.”
On the gigs so far: “For me the Katowice gig was a real highlight - I enjoyed that very much! To be fair I have enjoyed all these gigs so far. :)”
