Back to Norway!

Norway 2022Over the weekend, Clive and Gemma Ashley performed an acoustic concert during We Låve Rock Festival in Norway. It was Clive's first gig since the beginning of the pandemic.

Clive: "A massive thank you to the lovely Vikings who came and supported our performance during the We Låve Rock Festival 2022 - after over two years it felt extremely strange to be back on stage - but you all made it a great return! Thanks to all the organisers for making a fantastic weekend and of course to my partner in crime Gemma Ashley for putting in some terrific vocals."

Imaginaerium "Siege" Is Out!

Imaginaerium SiegeOn April 4th, Imaginaerium released their second album, "Siege". The album is available in multiple formats, including a CD, a 32-page earbook, and a USB flash drive.

PROG ROGUE: "Nolan is the leader in the charge of composing this sprawling opus, manning an arsenal of keyboards as well as performing vocal duties and orchestrating the arrangements.

The delightful Italian diva Laura Piazzai is also back at the microphone, and she is a vocal whirlwind that has now elevated her craft even further to mercurial levels, as her performance throughout is impeccable. [...] The extra CD is an equally satisfying experience as it boldly carves into uncharted territory and is just as enjoyable as the main album. A definite winning concept and a necessary addition into the 2025 hall of fame.”

"Song of the Wildlands' IS OUT!

SongClive: "‘Song of the Wildlands’, my beloved ‘Viking Project’ is finally released today, after literally months of delays. Writing this album was such and enjoyable experience, and then finding a way around the restrictions of a pandemic was both a challenge and a tribute to all the wonderful singers and musicals involved in the album.

This epic album was made possible thanks to the partnership and support of Crime Records and We Låve Rock Music, proving the excellence of a UK Norwegian alliance!
The CDs and the ‘Earbooks’ will be winging their way to people as I speak, but sadly the vinyl formats have been delayed one excruciating extra week or so, but I’m going to try and ignore that.

If you are not yet aware of ‘Song of the Wildlands’ then I ask you to check it out… There’s Viking blood running through it’s veins!"

I have about five minutes of music left to write, and then some overall edits and adjustments, at which point I hope to begin recording. This will undoubtably be the longest and most epic of the three musicals, and I will happily reveal more information over time.

“Alchemy” the Movie... Continued!

Alchemy Natalie smallAn idea for making a full-length movie out of Clive Nolan’s Steampunk musical “Alchemy” was born in the summer of 2014, when award winning movie director Neil Monaghan came to see the show at London Off-West End. Although a few years have passed, with the team involved in other projects, the first scene of “Alchemy” has now been successfully filmed! The filming is scheduled for the rest of 2022 and 2023 and we will be informing you about the progress of the project at ‘The Professor King Chronicles’ website and Facebook page, as well as Clive’s and Neil’s related platforms and social media.

Clive Nolan and Oliver Wakeman: Tales by Gaslight!

Gaslight artworkClive Nolan reunites with Oliver Wakeman after 20 years to issue a 3CD Box Set - Tales By Gaslight featuring remastered versions of their ‘future prog classics’ Jabberwocky and The Hound Of The Baskervilles along with a new disc Dark Fables.

The Tales By Gaslight box set, comprising 3CDs each with a 16-page booklet and 3 individual Art prints of the three covers, will be released by Burning Shed on 23rd April.

Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Arena) and Oliver Wakeman (YES, Strawbs) first combined their considerable keyboard and compositional talents to create two rock opera/concept albums.

Jabberwocky, released in 1999, was based on the famous Lewis Carroll poem. It was followed by The Hound of The Baskervilles (2002), inspired by the Sherlock Holmes novel penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The project was always intended to be a trilogy of musical interpretations of literary classics, but an album inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein was shelved because of a lack of record company funding.

This box set package also includes a third disc, featuring previously unreleased pieces that were intended to complete the trilogy. This third disc, Dark Fables, contains over 30 minutes of music conceived for the abandoned Frankenstein album.

Nolan and Wakeman also found pieces which were unused from The Hound of The Baskervilles. These include The Man Called Sherlock which was the original version of the Overture and 221B, inspired by Sherlock Holmes’ famous address.

Unusually for the time, the first two albums featured a host of guest performances, including narration by Wakeman’s father Rick and actor Robert Powell. Former YES guitarist, the late Peter Banks, Magnum vocalist Bob Catley and singer Tracy Hitchings appeared on both albums. Ayreon mastermind Arjen Lucassen lent his talent to The Hound of the Baskervilles along with members from the bands IQ and Threshold. The unique artwork was created by Rodney Matthews for the original Jabberwocky release. Peter Pracownik was the creativity behind The Hound of The Baskervilles artwork 20 years ago and has returned to this trilogy by lending his talents to the new Dark Fables artwork.

In keeping with the spirit of the two previous albums, the new recordings feature the talents of, amongst others, Gordon Giltrap, Paul Manzi (Arena, Oliver Wakeman Band, Sweet) Andy Sears (Twelfth Night) and David Mark Pearce (Oliver Wakeman Band). Also included is an original reading of the Jabberwocky poem by Rick Wakeman.

The Tales By Gaslight box set contains 3 CDs each with 16-page booklets including lyrics, previously unseen art work and many stories behind the creativity from both Wakeman and Nolan. The first 250 box sets will also include a 4th limited edition numbered art print of the box set cover signed by Clive Nolan and Oliver Wakeman.

Watch the boxset teaser HERE.

Tales By Gaslight is available now from Burning Shed.

HRH Prog Awards!

Clive award

Congratulations to Clive Nolan and Pendragon for winning the awards for Best Keyboard Player and Best Band at 2024 HRH Prog Awards. Well deserved indeed!

Clive: "[...] It was time for the ‘awards night’ - there was even a red carpet to walk along - nice.
Pendragon were nominated for best Prog Band, and I had been nominated for keyboard player. We found ourselves sharing a table with some other very nice people… we had been put right at the back of the venue, so I figured that pretty much told us that we would not be winning anything. Turns out I was wrong… Pendragon won ‘Best British Prog Band’, and I won ‘Master of Keys’… who’d have thought! So, thank you to the people who nominated us and to the people who voted for us: that truly was a surprice!

Imaginaerium “The Rise of Medici” out in September!

Imaginaerium people smallThe long-awaited album of Imaginaerium “The Rise of Medici” will be out on September 30th 2022. The Imaginaerium project started as a concept album idea, when Eric Bouillette, a French composer, guitarist, violinist and a member of numerous rock and progressive rock bands, including Nine Skies, The Room, Solace Supplice, Wilder’s Folly and others, met a charismatic Italian vocalist Laura Piazzai during the 2019 Cheltenham production of Clive’s musical extravaganza “The Lost Journals”, starring Laura as a demonic goddess, Makaria. They soon began talking about the possibilities of working together in the near future. Clive got involved in the Imaginaerium project very early on and was soon working on developing the concept for “The Rise of Medici”, as well as writing the lyrics. In collaboration with Eric, Clive composed the music and orchestrated the forthcoming album. Additionally, he was also asked to sing the part of the villain, Rinaldo.

Imaginaerium are: Clive Nolan (composition, arrangements, lyrics, keyboards, drum recording, vocals – Rinaldo), Eric Bouillette (composition, arrangements, guitars, keyboards, mandolin, violin) and Laura Piazzai (vocals – Contessina). "The Rise of Medici" will also feature the talents of Andy Sears (vocals – Cosimo), Elena Vladyuk (vocals – Lucrezia), Mark Spencer (vocals – Monks), Scott Higham (drums), Bernard Hery (bass) and Isabella Cambini (harp).

Clive: “In some ways I thank the pandemic for allowing me the ‘free’ time to get involved with this project. It appealed to my love of history, and the idea of ‘Renaissance meets Rock’ was fascinating. Having listened to the final mixes I’m convinced people are going to love this one!”

Filming begins today on ‘Alchemy, the Movie’!

Alchemy the Movie lightClive: "It has been a long couple of days as the team have been building the cell in Newgate prison… inside my garage !

When I wrote the musical I was hoping for a handful of theatrical performances... we have done that, and much more!
The filming will be done slowly over a period of about a year, so I'm taking a deep breath.

The camera and lights will be set up soon, and a make up guy will start work in a couple of hours. For the most part, I get to just watch now… and do the catering.

Luckily this is a relatively simple scene (Neil Monaghan, the director wanted to begin making this film with what he calls a ‘soft landing’)… but it won't be long before we are calling for extras to take part, just saying.

HERE is a clip of me recording Andy Sears' vocals for the first scene to be filmed."

Imaginaerium "The Rise of Medici" Live in Holland!

Imaginaerium liveOn January 26th, 2024, at Parkvilla Theater in Alphen aan den Rijnfor, the Netherlands, the first ever live presentation of Imaginaerium's "The Rise of Medici" album took place in front of a sold out theatre.

Clive: "A big thankyou to everyone who came along to the gig on Friday night. Our first chance to present the ‘Rise of the Medici’ album. The first half acoustic show was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed sharing various thoughts and anecdotes… turns out we over ran by about 20 minutes! Then came the presentation of ‘Medici’. I must say I have enjoyed playing ‘the baddie’ in this set up… I was pleased that the ‘growly’ voice survived the evening. The enthusiastic standing ovation at the end was very kind and most welcome, and proved that this idea, begun by the late Eric Bouillette, was well worth all the work that went into it.

Laura and I are pleased that the Imaginaerium legacy is very much alive and kicking.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped us out with all of this… Arne and Tracy for getting this gig off the ground and running with it… JJ and Nicole (And Gabriel and Dorian) for providing beds and excellent hospitality…. Magda (Doid!) and Vincent for selling all that merchandise… Petra for all her help along the way… Thanks also to Lenne, the theatre director for his support and to Steven Loos for dealing with our sound (Fantastic job old son!). Last, but not least, a massive thankyou to Marijke and Andy for their wonderful vocal performances and to Simone for his excellent guitar work!
And finally, my thanks to Laura for her big voice and passion for the project… she’s the heart of Imaginaerium."
