"KING'S RANSOM" 2018 THEATRE SHOW "FOR IAN"

KR For Ian poster smClive: "This is a hard announcement to make, so I will try and be direct. The director of my recent musical shows and my friend Ian Baldwin is extremely ill. This will, at best, be his toughest battle!
Some time ago before he ended up in hospital, when we were all blissfully unaware of the state of his health, Ian and I agreed that all the work that went into the debut stage performance of ‘King’s Ransom’ really deserved more than one performance.
I feel it’s time to make good on that, so I contacted all the cast and crew involved in the recent shows and asked if they would get involved. I received a unanimous ‘YES’… so we are going to do it!

King’s Ransom’ will be performed again, according to Ian’s vision of the show, at the Cheltenham Playhouse on Saturday September 8th. We will do this raise money for a plaque, which will become a permanent fixture in the Playhouse Theatre, and any more money raised will go to the Sue Ryder Hospice, which has been so important to Ian in recent weeks. Everyone is working for nothing so, beyond expenses, we hope to raise a decent amount of money.
September 2018 may seem rather a long way away under the circumstances, but it was the earliest date we could pull all the elements together. Whatever the circumstances this show will happen… for Ian.

Why am I telling you this… simple… I want to invite you all to come and see the show next year. If you’ve been before, then please consider coming again. If you didn’t make it this year, then come along and see it. We are doing this to celebrate our friend and our director Ian Baldwin. Please join us. We will perform ‘King’s Ransom’, and there will hopefully be a few surprise extras that evening."

Tickets are available from our web shop HERE

Thank you, Caamora Norway!

Alchemy in Norway groupIn May 2017 Caamora Norway debuted with an all-Norwegian production of Clive's musical "Alchemy". The shows took place in Sætre (sold out show), Kolbotn and at the Mysen Høytorp fort and featured Clive Nolan in his original role of Professor Samuel King, and the talented theatre artists and musicians from Norway, including Eirikur Hauksson as Lord Henry Jagman, Elisabeth Syrdahl Ellingsen as Amelia Darvas, Harriet Müller-Tyl as Eva Bonaduce, Christine Ekeberg as Jessamine and Mrs. Muncey, and many others. The singers were accompanied by the instrumentalists from the progressive rock band The Windmill. The Norwegian shows met with enthusiastic reception from the audiences and critics alike, which was reflected in numerous positive reviews in the local press. The final show at the Mysen Fort was filmed for DVD, which will be released later this year. Hopefully, Caamora Norway will return with the next Nolan production soon.

Clive: “I am now sitting back in the UK after a two week adventure in Norway. And this was indeed quite an adventure, culminating to some wonderful performances of ‘Alchemy’!
If I try to thank everyone, this list will go on forever, and I would still manage to miss some people, so, if I may, just some highlights… Thanks you to Morten L Clason for interrupting my breakfast on 6th September 2015, where the seeds of ‘Alchemy Norway’ were sown. About 20 months later, and we did it! I say ‘we’ but this time, it was a pretty easy ride for me. Morten along with the lovely Ingar Diskerud, and Are Høidal managed to get this whole machine moving along, whilst Magdalena Grabias and Astraea Antal scurried around promoting the events. The final result at the Hoytorp Fort was truly spectacular… I loved it!
Massive thanks to the band, the chorus and of course the marvellous principals for their part in this terrific show: you were all superb and there was some excellent singing and acting on that stage which was great fun to be a part of. The sound, the lights and the video just added to the excellence of the evening!
There were also so many wonderful details: the programme, tickets, posters, the terrific costumes, photographs, filming, and of course the much welcomed catering from what I privately called ‘Team Hilde’ (there were at least three of them: Hilde Johanne Eriksen Clason, Hilde Klepper Eriksen, Hilde Chistiansen along with Siren Iversen Diskerud, Geir Eriksen, Tove-Lill Grefslie and Pål H. Christiansen).
It says on the back of the programme that ‘Caamora Norway will return’…. well you can “take is as a fact, you can bet your final pound” that they certainly will… “our work is not yet done!” Thank you again, everyone!!"

Clive Composes College Anthem

College songDuring his visit to South America in October 2016 Clive was commissioned to compose an anthem for the International College of Punta del Este in Uruguay. Having carefully examined the mission statement and ideals promoted by the bilingual College, in December 2016, Clive completed the lyrics and composed the music to a song he named "The Future in Our Hands". In January 2017 the composition met with a positive reception and was accepted by the Board to be an official anthem of the College. Clive was also invited back to Punta del Este to be the guest of honour at the College's inaugural ceremony in March. Sadly, due to other commitments, he is unable to attend, so another visit is planned for November.

Clive: "This is certainly something I’ve never done before, so it was an interesting challenge: to find the right blend of music and lyric to give that ‘anthemic’ feel to the song. I very much look forward to one day visiting the school and hearing the song sung live!”

Clive at the Launch of “Otra Vida” the Novel!

Otra Vida book cover smOn November 5th, Clive Nolan and Friends will perform a concert at the official launch of the novel “Otra Vida” (“Another Life”) by the Uruguayan writer, Elizeth Schluk. Her book was originally inspired by Clive’s bilingual 2011 album, released in Uruguay under the same title and based on the idea of Nolan and Schluk. The “Otra Vida” album featured the last performance of the legend of Uruguayan theatre, cinema and TV, China Zorrilla as a narrator, as well as the Uruguayan-born Hollywood actress and singer Noel Calcaterra on vocals. The concert in Punta del Este, Uruguay will feature Clive on piano and vocal, Elisabeth Ellingsen (Caamora Norway) on vocal and the original “Otra Vida” guitarist and bassist, Mark Westwood (Caamora).

Clive: "'Otra Vida' is a novel based on an album which I wrote some years ago - it featured the singer Noel Calcaterra and told a story about a loss of memories. It is written by Ellie Schluk and is being launched at a special event on Saturday where I will be performing some songs from 'Otra Vida' with Mark Westwood and Elisabeth Ellingsen."

Congratulations to Elizeth Schluk on the publication of the novel!

"King's Ransom is out now!

KR arrivedClive Nolan: "Great news, the ‘King’s Ransom’ CDs are here! The right music is on the disks and the pages are in the right order (you may laugh, but I have experienced some epic fails over the years)… in fact, the whole package looks (and sounds!) excellent… ;) It represents several years work, and I must admit to some pride in the finished result…. Featuring terrific performances from a ‘galaxy of stars’, along with marvelous artwork. The best one yet, I think!

Anyone coming to the ‘Fire and the Quest 2’ shows can pick up their order at the theatre. Apologies to everyone else, but I may not be able to send out the other orders until I’m back from these shows (beginning of the week of the 4th September)."

KR Trailer 2 phThe year 2017 will see the CD release of Clive's new musical ‘King’s Ransom’, as well as the theatrical debut of the show in September. Just as exciting as this are the rumours that there might be a feature film version of both ‘Alchemy’ and ‘King’s Ransom’ some time in the future. We gave the second one the title of 'Jeopardy', and it features the characters Eva (Gemma Ashley), Josephine (Verity White), William (Guy Barnes), Roza (Natalie Barnett) and King (that's me again!)
