Arena Line Up Change

Arena with DamianArena: “It is with sadness that we will be parting ways with singer Paul Manzi. He has been with us for ten years, three studio albums and a lot of touring, but these commitments, particularly the touring, were becoming a strain on his time and availability, so it was mutually agreed that it was the right time for Paul to move on. We wish him luck with his musical endeavours, and he we always welcome to join us on stage in the future.”

The new Arena vocalist was announced shortly after in the following statement:

Arena: “We have great pleasure in welcoming Damian Wilson to the new Arena line up. Most people will already know him as a fantastic singer, and there is no doubt he will bring something special and original to the band.

We have known Damian for about 25 years, and the idea of him singing for Arena has, in fact, been a possibility in the past, but circumstances did not allow that to happen at the time. However, since Paul has now decided to move on, it would seem that we have come full circle, and the time is now right! Recording will start soon for the new album 'The Theory of Molecular Inheritance' with Damian on vocals, but the release has been delayed due to the restrictions of the Corona Virus.”

"King's Ransom" Cheltenham 2018: Thank you!

CH 2018 group smOn September 8th the Cheltenham Playhouse saw the return of Clive and his troupe, The Caamora Theatre Company. The 2018 rendition of Clive’s third musical, “King’s Ransom”, was performed to commemorate the life and work of Clive’s long-time friend and the show’s original director, Ian Baldwin.

Clive: "This year’s performance of “King's Ransom” saw everyone up their game yet again. Following the excellent directorial structure provided by the omnipresent Ian Baldwin, with a few terrific tweaks thanks to Ross Andrews’ supervisory role, we had our best show yet. I hope Ian would be very proud!

I’m not going to start writing lists of ‘thank yous’ or ‘special mentions’. It’s simple… The cast, the crew and the audience were, without exception, brilliant… thank you so much for making this very emotional tribute to Ian such a memorable one."

"Song of the Wildlands" Recording Has Begun!

Dragon 3 smHaving completed the writing of the new project at the beginning of the year, Clive has now proceeded to the recording phase. Due to the Covid 19 lockdown, the chorus parts, sung in Anglo-Saxon, are being recorded at homes and delivered for editing via Internet.

Clive has already announced the names of the four solo singers taking part in the project. These are Christina Booth, Gemma Ashley, Natalie Barnett and Ryan Morgan. The chorus has also gathered some well-known progressive names. Details will be revealed soon!

Clive: ‘The Wildland Warriors’ is the name I gave to all the lovely people who have been helping me make my new album, ‘Song of the Wildlands’ (code named ‘The Viking Project’). The project will eventually be released by the Norwegian Crime Records and We Låve Rock Music.

I thought, as we got hit with this unsettling new way of life, that this album would end up on ice for an unknown amount of time. Then, I put a call out online to anyone who was ready, willing and able to record their vocals.

I wanted to start building the chorus parts of this album, which in many ways are the most important element. My aim was to build up maybe a choir of about 100 voices. Well, thanks to each my ‘Wildland Warrior’ providing me with multiple tracks, I have (in some songs) about 140 voices singing in Anglo-Saxon (translated by our splendid medieval guru, Christopher Monk)! And there are still more to come!

I thought I might offer you a taste of the terrific work these guys are doing. With help from director Neil Monaghan, we have collected many of them together for this little video clip.

Many thanks to the wonderful ‘Warriors’ who took part in recording the vocals for “Dragon Fire”.

Caamora Norway “King’s Ransom” Rehearsals!

Wintercamp group smallThe rehearsals for the Caamora Norway production of Clive’s musical “King’s Ransom” have begun. In February the cast of over 35 artists gathered to rehearse in costumes for what will be a semi-theatrical show featuring the live band, soloists and the chorus. The shows will take place in Autumn 2020 in Norway. Tickets are available NOW!

Clive: “Three cheers for the 'Viking work ethic'! Having just got back from the “winter camp rehearsal weekend' in Norway, I can say we are definitely in good shape for the shows later in the year. These guys worked long and hard, and the results were clear to see. Brilliant - Well done everyone! That was fun.”

It’s Movie Time!

Prof King Chrinicles fb smClive: “It’s movie time guys! As you may know, I have signed both ‘Alchemy' and ‘King’s Ransom’ to a film company with a view to bringing these musicals to the silver screen. As always for such a project, we need your support. Remember, we are not attempting to ‘fundraise' here, we are looking for investors. If you put money in, we have every hope and intention that you will get it back, with due rewards.

We have just returned from Norway where we were scouting for possible locations for both of the movies. It’s important that we keep moving forward with the project while we work on raising the budget. I’m glad to say we have found a whole load of great locations, which will hopefully feature in these films!

Now is the time to raise awareness of the project, and with that in mind I’d like to invite you to our new ‘Professor King Chronicles’ Facebook page where we will be keeping you informed about the development and production of these movies. We need your support for this, so please ‘like’ and follow us… be part of the magic!”

Clive's Book Published!

Clives zombie book coverClive has published his first book! “This Is Not The Zombie Apocalypse!” is a detailed and humorous account of the first half of Pendragon “Love Over Fear” tour, cancelled halfway through due to the growing threat from the Covid 19 spreading throughout the world. Clive exposes the secrets of the rock band’s life on the tour bus. A highly entertaining writing from the multitalented musician.

Clive: “I’m very happy to announce the release of my first book! It’s called ‘This Is Not The Zombie Apocalypse’, and it is now available through Amazon. The book is the account of the few first days of the Pendragon tour, before it got cancelled… If nothing else, you can find out everything about The Case of the Kidnapped Frog!” 😉

The book has right away gathered numerous positive reviews from the readers. To quote just a few:

Roger Kelly: "You don’t have to be a progger to enjoy this. Clive Nolan is as talented
writer as he a pianist and creator of wonderful music. This is his account of life on
the road with top prog rock band Pendragon, as they venture around Europe wondering what next is in store for them as COVID-19 threatens to curtail all enjoyment on the planet. It’s funny and it’s sad. And also a great ‘whodunnit’ story as one of the band crew is kidnapped! Read it. You’ll love it."

Ron Milsom: "If you want to experience the real world behind the glamour of showbiz,
you can do no better than read this book by the legendary Clive Nolan. An interesting
account of rock band Pendragon's abbreviated world tour during our current crisis.
Interesting, entertaining, informative and funny!"

"Election Night" Soundtrack!

Election nightClive has been commissioned to write the soundtrack for a new horror film by the director Neil Monaghan. Nolan and Monaghan are currently also working together on the film versions of Clive’s musicals “Alchemy” and “King’s Ransom” under the title of "The Professor King chronicles".

Clive: "I'm very excited to announce that I will be writing the music for a new film, ‘Election Night’. This film is directed by Neil Monaghan and hopefully will give him and the ‘Suspicious Character Films’ company a good run up towards making 'Alchemy’ and 'King's Ransom' into movies.

Will this film score be anything like the musicals? No... not in any way!"

Clive’s New Project “Song of the Wildlands”!

Song of the Wildlands smClive: “I'm excited to announce that I have now completed the writing for the upcoming work that has been running under the name of 'The Viking Project'.

'Song of the Wildlands' will be a secular oratorio (to use a classical term), featuring orchestra, 100 voice choir, four solo singers, rock band and a plethora of what I like to call 'Viking Instruments'. I hope that this work will appeal to prog fans, classical fans, folk fans and many more.

This is not like anything I have written before. I was so inspired by this project that I was writing in a positive fever in any spare time I could find over the last couple of months, so despite my intention to embark on this at the start of the new year, the composition is already in the bag! This is, nevertheless, a big undertaking, and the plan is to record it during next year.

More information will follow... now I just need to find 100 voices!”

“Salvation Has A Name” Video!

Salvation shotIn September 2018, Clive Nolan together with the director Neil Monaghan, and “King’s Ransom” cast members: Chris Lewis (Edwin Deeks) and Gemma Ashley (Eva Bonaduce), travelled to Norway to film one of the musical’s anthems, “Salvation Has A Name”. The group was joined by an extensive number of the Caamora Norway artists, as well as the Norwegian film crew: Dag W. Grundseth and Olav Urdahl. The filming took place over two days at the Høytorp fort in Mysen and marked the beginning of “The Professor King’s Chronicles” location test filming.

Neil Monaghan: “This is the fourth test film we have shot ahead of going into full production. This number, taken from “King's Ransom”, allowed us to test the viability of shooting in Norway as well as experimenting with some 3D computer generated shots. Our Norwegian partners were fantastic as ever and made the whole shoot an absolute pleasure. Thanks also to Chris Lewis who excels as Edwin Deeks.”

Pendragon "The First 40 Years" Book and CD Set!

First 40 yearsAfter selling out of the first run of a special collectors’ edition commemorative 40th year anniversary Book and CD pack in a record time, the second pressing can now be pre-ordered from the Merch Desk!

Pendragon: “It’s taken two years to collate, re-record, mix, find the pics, get new artwork (and a hundred other things). So, here is what you get:
Approximately 11inch square (just slightly smaller than a vinyl sleeve) this 32 page hard back book is truly a celebration of Pendragon from 1978 to the current day. Cover artwork from Simon Williams (The World/Window of Life/Masquerade Overture etc.) incorporating images throughout the history of the band in his very own recognisable style, inside there is 32 glossy pages of photo memories throughout the years and a few words from Nick, Peter, Clive and Vinnie and of course 5 CDs.

The discs are: “Live at London” 3 discs from last November’s sold out 40th Anniversary show at 229 The Venue. The London show featured a return to the Pendragon drum stool for Nigel Harris to perform some of the early songs plus some saxophone from original and co-founding member Julian Baker. When mixing the live discs Karl Groom (Thin Ice Studio) said that this is one of the best recorded live gig atmospheres he’s ever heard, and we think you’ll agree that’s it’s really very special indeed.

Plus: 2 completely re-mixed (not just re-mastered!) versions of “The World” & “Men Who Climb Mountains”, which more or less “bookends” the career of the band. Both re-mixes will feature re-recorded drums from current drummer Jan-Vincent Velazco as well as updated and additional keyboards on “The World” recording.”

The shows featured the songs from Clive’s repertoire, including his three Christmas songs: “The Gift”, “Embers” and “The Night Before Christmas”, as well as the Norwegian Christmas classic “Musevisa”. Both events met with enthusiastic reactions from the audiences. Additionally, during the show in Sætre, the head of Caamora Norway, Morten L. Clason, was presented with the award and title of the Man of Culture of the Year 2018 by the authorities of the Hurum region.

Clive: “I have just returned from another wonderful Norway visit. There wasn’t snow this time, but the spirit of the people around was excellent, and we performed two most enjoyable Christmas gigs. As always it was a pleasure working with the Vikings, and I think we raised our level from last year. The hospitality was brilliant, and I can’t wait to get back! Congratulations to Morten for his award, and thanks to all who took part!”

Farewell to Ian Baldwin!

Directors

It is with great sadness we inform you that Ian Baldwin, our talented director, a fantastic guy and a beloved friend, passed away on Sunday, January 21st. Ian joined the Caamora Theatre Company in 2013. Within the last 5 years he directed the theatre versions of all 3 of Clive Nolan's musicals: "Alchemy" (2014, 2015, 2017), "She" (2015, 2016) and "King's Ransom" (2017). The shows were performed in Cheltenham and in the off-West End in London and were all successful, enjoyable, and met with enthusiasm of critics and audiences alike. Ian will also be remembered for an array of wonderful performances in all the shows, especially the comedy parts - the roles of Job in "She" and Captain Fergus Maunder in "King's Ransom". We will all remember his creative genius, persistence, patience, reliability, great sense of humour, wit, and warmth. Thank you for everything, Ian. You will not be forgotten!

Clive: "Ian passed away this morning - this is heartbreaking - a great guy and the best ‘partner in crime’ I could have wished for... Rest in peace old son - your story is not over yet!"

The Caamora Theatre Company rose to this new challenge with professionalism and passion, offering the audience a taste of Clive Nolan’s musical genius in a nutshell.

Clive: “So here we are... after nearly a year in the making ‘The Lost Journals’ show is done and performed! Thank you so much to all who took part in this one. Despite a few microphone problems, this night ran extremely smoothly. I think everyone did an amazing job and really brought “The Lost Journals” to life. ‘The Professor King Chronicles’

The Professor King Chronicles smClive: “At the end of last year, I signed a major contract with a film production company, with a view to turning both ‘Alchemy’ and ‘King’s Ransom’ into full theatrical-release feature films.

This is a very exciting development in the ongoing journey of these musicals. As with any film project it is now all about raising the budget. Since both stories share some characters and locations, we plan to shoot the movies back to back. This will
dramatically lower the overall production cost.

This is not a fundraising exercise where people very kindly donate money. This is a significant investment opportunity in a large-scale project, with a real chance of making a profit.

We already have many extremely talented cast members, but we will also be recruiting named actors, singers and musical theatre stars to give the films solid commercial appeal. Naturally our budget level is a determining factor in which stars we can attract.

We have produced a detailed investment prospectus available to anyone interested in joining us. Simply private message me and I’ll send you the information.

As a taster, here is a SHORT VIDEO outlining our plans.

Is this an ambitious plan? Certainly.
But it is costed, realistic and achievable. Why not join us and become part of something truly special?”

Clive Nolan features in Animated Film!

Poster Woolworld 700x1000 joanna polak2In October 2017 Clive recorded a voice-over for the Polish animated production written and directed by a prolific and highly acclaimed filmmaker, Joanna Polak. A short film entitled “Woolworld” tells a story of Mr. Wooly and his friends, who live in a world made of wool. The protagonist is not happy with his life and hopes for a change that will make his existence more interesting. Unfortunately for him, his wish comes true…

Clive recorded an English version of the voice-over, including the narration and the monologues of the main character. The official premiere of the film will take place at The Centre for the Meeting of Cultures (Centrum Spotkania Kultur) in Lublin, Poland on Friday, December 15th, 2017. Subsequently, the film will be screened at the major film festivals around the world.

Clive: “A while ago I recorded a voice over for a rather unusual short film. In this animated production, everything is made of wool, and I took on the persona of ‘Mr Woolly’, something I never expected to add to my CV. Actually, it was a lot of fun… if you get a chance, please check it out. Good luck to Joanna and the whole team at the premiere!”

"Woolworld" trailer will be available right after the premiere.
